Purpose Statement:

The Association of Wisconsin Surgery Centers, Inc. acts as a forum for the exchange of ideas among professionals engaged in the clinical and administrative management of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). WISCA facilitates communication among members, provides continuing education and leadership development opportunities, and advocates for members on legislative and regulatory issues.

History:

The Association of Wisconsin Surgery Centers, Inc. (WISCA) was formed on June 14, 1989 for the purpose of networking and sharing of information. Priorities at the time were on surgery center development, inventories, surveying and regulatory issues, as well as the development of statewide ASC reporting criteria.

In June of 1992, ASC administrators contracted with a management compnay to develop the official organization known as WISCA. The organization’s first official meeting was held in September of that year. WISCA was incorporated in 1995, and by 1999 the membership grew to 16 ASC organizational members, one non-Medicare certified affiliate member, and seven corporate affiliate members.

Helping to shape health care policy was an initial focus, and WISCA members worked closely with the Wisconsin Medical Society and the Wisconsin Medical Group Management Association to develop a fair and equitable plan to fund Wisconsin's Health Insurance Risk Sharing Pool (HIRSP). The group also worked to address major concerns with a Worker's Compensation carrier operating in the state.

Today, WISCA represents nearly 60% of all ASCs in the state of Wisconsin and continues to grow. Key areas of focus are to increase participation in the organization through interactive member communication tools, grow corporate membership, continue to offer quality educational opportunities on timely topics, including the annual Clinical Forum, and develop and manage key legislative priorities at both the state and national levels.

WISCA works on behalf of its members to initiate positive change for the industry, and ultimately for healthcare consumers.
